Perfect hamburger buns

Everyone always want the best burger buns for their hamburgers. Well today I decided to show everyone how easy it is to make fresh home-made hamburger buns on your Kamado Joe. This recipe takes approximately three and half hour to make. So plan ahead but it’s totally worth it! For today’s cook I will be using my Classic Kamado Joe ceramic cooker. The reason I chose to bake on this cooker is that it makes perfect bread and buns each time! Well let’s get grilling shall we!

Ingredients

  • 3 ¼ cup all-purpose flour (1 pound)
  • 1 Cup warm water 110 degrees F
  • 2.5 tsp yeast
  • 1 ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 3 tbsp melted butter
  • 3 tbsp white sugar
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 2 eggs

Direction

1. Place a piece of parchment paper on top of pizza stone;

2. In mixer bowl add yeast 1/2 cup flour and warm water whisk until smooth. Let stand until mixture is foamy, 10 to 15 minutes;

3.  Now add 1 egg, melted butter, sugar, and salt and whisk it then add it the yeast mixture;

4. Fit a dough hook onto stand mixer and add approximately 2 1/2 cups of flour and knead the dough on low speed until soft and Sticky, for about 5 to 6 minutes. Scrape sides if needed. (You can test the dough by Poking and prodding the dough with a silicone spatula. If large amounts of dough stick to the spatula, add a little more flour.);

5. Transfer dough onto a floured work surface, dough will be sticky and elastic but not stick to your fingers. Form the dough lightly into a smooth, round shape, gently tucking loose ends underneath. You also want to wipe out the mixer bowl and spray some olive oil into the bowl;

6. Place the dough ball inside bowl and turn ball several time to coat the entire surface of the dough ball;

7. Now cover the bowl with foil or saran wrap and let it rise for 2 hours in a warm place;

8.  Punch the dough down and transfer dough to a floured work surface and pat to flatten bubbles and form into a slightly rounded rectangle of dough about 5 by 10 inches and about 1/2 inch thick. Dust dough lightly with flour as needed;

9. You now want to cut dough into 8 equal pieces using a dough cutter. Form each piece into a round shape, gently tucking ends underneath;

10. Using your hands gently pat and stretch the dough rounds into flat disc shapes about 1/2 inch thick. Arrange buns about 1/2 inch apart on prepared pizza stone;

11. Drape a piece of plastic wrap over the buns (do not seal tightly). Let buns rise until doubled, approximately 1 hour;

12.  Meanwhile Preheat your Joe to 375 degrees Fahrenheit;

Pre-Heat Kamado Joe to 375 Degree Fahrenheit

13.  Now for the egg wash beat 1 egg with milk in a small bow using a fork, until mixture is thoroughly mixed. Very gently and lightly brush tops of each buns with egg wash. (Optional you can sprinkle sesame seeds on top of them. I didn't since my kids don't like it. Very fussy lol!);

14. Bake in the preheated Joe until lightly browned and golden, approximately 15 to 17 minutes. You might want to rotate pizza stone a couple time during baking to prevent hot spots;
